Top athletes coach youngsters

Fifty eight children have spent the week being coached by international athletes at Cwmbran Stadium. After a week of picking up tips in events such as sprinting, hurdles, throws, long jump and triple jump they will now get a certificate and goodie bag (containing a sports bag, cap, and sports bottle). Athlete Tim Abeyie, the current British Champion, for 60m and 200m indoor sprint has been coaching the youngsters along with fellow top athletes Ryan Spencer-Jones, Emma Peters, Kodie Thompson and Daniel Evans.

Their last day is tomorrow (Friday) between 10am and 3pm. The week was organised by Torfaen Council's Dragon Sports Co Ordinator, Helena Mc Daid and First Steps, a coaching organisation. First Steps have an athletics club running every Sunday until 30 September at Pontypool Active Living Centre. Their next ten week athletics course starts in October at Pontypool Active Living Centre on Sundays from 3pm to 4pm. You can find out more at www.firststepskills.co.uk or call 07818048889.
