Early Intervention of the Criminal Justice System

Reprimand is a formal verbal warning given by a police officer to a young person who admits they are guilty of a minor first offence. Sometimes the young person can be referred to the Youth Offending Team (YOT) to take part in a voluntary programme to help them address their offending behaviour.

Final Warning is a second and “final” warning administered by the police. A Final Warning triggers immediate referral to the YOT. The YOT will carry out an assessment and offer a voluntary programme of intervention with the aim of reducing the likelihood of further offending behaviour.
