Detention and Training Order (DTO)

Detention and training orders are given according to the sentencing guidelines for persistent or serious offending and range in length from 4-24 months.

 

Young people normally serve the first half in custody and the second half on “license” being supervised by the YOT in the community.

 

A training plan is agreed with the young person that is delivered jointly by the prison and the YOT to identify the reasons for a young person’s offending and to reduce these risks. Programmes available in the prisons offending behaviour programmes, substance misuse counselling, education and support in accessing appropriate accommodation.
