Assessments made by the Youth Justice Team

A structured assessment, called Asset, is completed for each young person referred to the Yot. Asset is a research based assessment tool that practitioners use to identify the causes of a young person’s offending behaviour.

Factors such as:-

  • Living arrangements
  • Family and personal relationships
  • Education
  • Training and employment
  • Neighbourhood
  • Lifestyle
  • Substance use
  • Physical health
  • Emotional and mental health
  • Perception of self and others
  • Thinking and behaviour

Attitudes to offending and motivation to change are all considered. An intervention plan is then agreed with the young person and their family to reduce the impact of the identified risks and to strengthen the identified positive factors with the aim of reducing the likelihood of a young person committing further offences.
