Environment

Street cleansing is carried out on a fortnightly basis in this ward, the carriageways are mechanically swept once a month and all local shopping centres are cleansed on a daily basis, refuse collection takes place on a Friday

There is a recycling area in the Fairwater Shops Car Park for clear glass, brown glass, green glass, cans and paper

Unemployment (2004)

 

Whilst unemployment in the area has declined significantly and only 62 people remain registered unemployed, 44 males and 18 females (June 2004). Of the 62 claimants, 20 are under 24 years of age and 5 are registered as long term unemployed (unemployed for over 52 weeks).

 

Home Ownership (2001)

 

Fairwater has a higher proportion of owner occupied households at 71.7% than Torfaen 68.3% and Wales as a whole 71.3%. 22.2% of properties are rented from the local authority (Torfaen 22.8%, Wales 13.7%)

22.2% of households in Fairwater do not own a car (Torfaen 27.2%, Wales 26.0%).
