Environment

Street cleansing is carried out on a fortnightly basis in this ward, the carriageways are mechanically swept once a month and all local shopping centres are cleansed on a daily basis. Refuse collection takes place on a Monday.

There is a recycling area in Ty Rosser Gwyn, Varteg for paper and textiles and one in Union Street, Abersychan for glass, paper and textiles

Unemployment (2004)

 

Whilst unemployment in the area has declined significantly, 88 people remain registered unemployed, 62 males and 26 females (June 2004). Of the 88 claimants, 30 are under 24 years of age and 10 are registered as long term unemployed (unemployed for over 52 weeks).

Abersychan has a lower proportion of owner occupied households at 64.6% than Torfaen 68.3% and Wales as a whole 71.3%. 27.0% of properties are rented from the local authority (Torfaen 22.8%, Wales 13.7%)
