Torfaen Youth Forum
The main aim of the Forum is to involve young people living in Torfaen aged 11-25 in decisions made about them and the services they receive.
The Forum is an opportunity for young people to meet and discuss issues about the things they like or don't like about living in Torfaen and how (with other young people) they can change things.
Aims:
-
To involve young people in the Torfaen Children & Young People's Partnership (TCYPP)
-
Promote article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which says that 'Children have the right to say what they think should happen when adults are making decisions that affect them and to have their opinions taken into account'
-
Give young people the opportunity to develop new skills and meet other young people living in Torfaen
The Forum meets on a monthly basis at locations throughout the borough. There is presently a core steering group membership of 25-30 young people, 65 members are invited to every monthly meeting. In addition a further 300 young people are on the Forum network.

The Children and Young People's Participation Consortium for Wales
The Participation Unit and the Welsh Assembly Government's Participation Project are working together to promote the participation of children and young people (0-25) in decision-making in Wales. They have developed a set of National Standards for participation that are relevant for all organisations who work with or have an impact on children and young people.
