The proposal to use some of the gym equipment from the old leisure centre in a community-run gym is progressing and will be subject to local consultation.

Consultation| on the leisure elements of the campus will be undertaken during February and March 2009.  The consultation, which closes on Friday 20th March 2009, will outline the current proposal and seek views on possible alternatives to this proposal.  A drop-in day has been organised for Sunday 22 January 2009 at the Communities First Office, Bowls Pavilion as part of the Blaenavon 2 area Community Audit - all members of the community are welcome to drop in, see the proposal and provide comment.

A further drop-in day has been planned for Wednesday 18th March 2009 at Blaenavon Workmen's Hall - 4pm until 8pm.

Posters| have been distributed throughout the town to advertise this event.

31 July 2008

The gym equipment from the Leisure Centre is currently in storage awaiting permanent reinstatement. There is a possibility that some of this equipment could be used in a community-run arrangement.

This suggestion has been put to the Blaenavon 2 Communities First Steering Group who are exploring the availability of Job Match training for members of the community to supervise a community run gym.

The location of the gym will be considered once the availability of training has been established.

Two items of equipment are currently being used by the Cardiac Rehabilitation team in Blaenavon.
