Licence and registration of explosives
The Trading Standards Service is responsible for licensing in relation to a number of issues including Private Hire and Hackney Carriages|, Liquor|, Gambling|, Lotteries|, House to House and Street Collections, registration and safe storage of explosives and poisons.
Explosives includes products such as fireworks, flares, small arms ammunition, airbags etc, but excluding more dangerous types of explosives where a police certificate is required for acquisition of the explosives.
Traders and others storing more than a small quantity of explosives must register themselves and their premises, (subject to a fee), to store explosives. For storage of explosives in larger quantities a licence (subject to a fee) is required. Advice and application forms are available from the Trading Standards Service. Traders who wish to supply fireworks outwith restricted dates - Bonfire Night, Hogmanay and Chinese New Year - require an additional licence (subject to a fee) in the terms of the Fireworks Regulation.
A "Safe Storage and Supply of Fireworks|" leaflet is available to download, which contains information for retailers
