Take-up Strategy
Torfaen’s Corporate Plan includes the following key priority as part of its Vision 2010
"To improve services for vulnerable people and to improve health outcomes for everyone by promoting healthier lifestyles".
The Council’s Benefits service makes a significant contribution to this priority. It aims to maximise the take up of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit and wherever possible encourage claimants (and other customers) to maximise their income by applying for available social security benefits, tax credits or allowances.
In order to support authorities in maximising take-up the Welsh Assembly Government has made grant funding available to local authorities in Wales. The Council has set out the polices and plans to be adopted by the Authority for using the grant funding, a copy of which can be seen in the Take Up Project| document.
Further information is available in the Improving Benefit Take Up| strategy. This sets out our vision for improving the take up of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit and maximising the income of Torfaen citizens.
Between April 2008 and January 2010 the take up campaign has raised an additional £435,000 in additional benefits for Torfaen residents. If you think you may be eligible or need more information call 0800 652 5422.
