Benefit Fraud
Every year millions of pounds of taxpayer's money is stolen by Benefit fraudsters. According to government estimates it costs every household in the UK £80 per annum. This money could otherwise be spent on public services such as health and education.
Torfaen is committed to the prevention and detection of fraud. We employ a team of specialist, professional fraud investigators who deal specifically with Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit fraud and abuse.
The Investigation Team carry out comprehensive enquiries, interviewing claimants and prosecuting offenders where appropriate. The Team also works with other agencies such as the Department for Work and Pensions and the Police where necessary.
Referrals of suspected fraud are received from many sources including members of the public.
