Pandemic Influenza

DoctorA pandemic is a global disease outbreak. A Flu pandemic occurs when a new flu virus emerges for which people have no immunity.

Experts predict a pandemic will occur but cannot say exactly when.

What measures are in place to deal with this?

The Department of Health is the lead department for pandemic flu planning.  A UK Influenza Pandemic Contingency Plan has been developed to ensure a co-ordinated response in the event of a UK outbreak.

To see a copy of the Plan visit the UK Resilience| website.  The Government is also stockpiling anti-virals and other equipment and are acquiring vaccines and the capacity to acquire new vaccines quickly.

What Can I Do?
