What to do in an Emergency

If an emergency occurs try to remain calm and carry out the following:

  • If immediate threat to life call 999 and request help from the Emergency Services.
  • Seek information from the Emergency Services either in person at the scene or via local television and radio.
  • Check on neighbours especially those who are disabled or elderly and might not be aware of the situation.
  • Remember you may be advised to evacuate or remain in your home. Always seek advice and orders from the Emergency Services.
  • If evacuation is required remember to take things such as medication, baby food etc with you.
  • If anyone is injured apply First Aid until professional medical assistance arrives.
  • If its safe to do so check your home for any damage including fires, leaks etc and be prepared to turn off the electric, Gas or Water supplies.
  • If there is a risk of a gas leak or any other explosive do not turn on any electrical switches, light candles or strike matches.

If there is an emergency and you have been asked to stay at home go inside closing all doors and windows and close any non essential vents.
